The Business of Being Born
I watched The Business of Being Born the other night - as I’m sure everyone expected I would.
Actually,I only watched about half of it. At some point, I said,”Why am I watching this? I already know all this!”.
As I’ve stated before, when I watch a documentary,I want to be enlightened or at least opened up to something I previously was not. My own DIY Homebirthing is a personal testament to everything pointed out in BOBB. It’s nothing new to me.I agree with all the principles. I can’t be convinced any more than I already am.
I probably won’t ever understand why this all isn’t common sense to everyone else in America. It’s awesome that there is a film out there to help women see the light, if their inclined to see it.Movies like these should be shown in health class in high school, before girls and boys become women and men and become susceptible to the fear mongering and inaccurate information thrown at them by the medical community just trying to make a buck.
One of my favorite quotes was from the doctor who said something to the effect of women who want natural birth just being “feminist machoists”. I’m thinking Mr Man Doctor is just jealous because he wasn’t designed to be an all-powerul she-woman life-giving goddess. That man had Uterine Envy. Pffft.
Fine then, bring on the Feminist Machismo! I’ve had all degrees of childbirth, from completely medicalized to free and natural and my $27 non-drugged homebirth was 1,000 times more positive than the $4,000+ drug induced, doctor meddling medical procedure any day. I didn’t do it to prove a point.I did it because I had faith my body was going to do what it was supposed to do.
